While the winter is winding down, fishing is on the minds of everyone in the Northeast. Here at JC's Offshore Tackle, we have been preparing for the oncoming migration of pelagic species into our waters. We expect 50-150lb class Bluefin to be rolling through the Canyons and dump area in mid to early June. In this fishery we tend to run a combination of spreader bars and daisy chains complemented by ballyhoo rigged on Joe Shutes on our long riggers. This spread has done very well for us in the past aboard Jakamo Sportfising Charters. As for Canyon fishing we are expecting yellowfin and big eye to be arrive late June to early July. When fishing the Canyons billfish can be an exhilarating experience and running dredges will only increase your chances of landing one of these majestic fish. In the late summer white marlin flood into the waters south of the Vineyard in large numbers. When targeting billfish we run naked and skirted ballyhoo accompanied by a JC's Offshore Tackle machine dredge. These dredges consist of 56 baits, mimicking a school on sand eels (the most common bait south of the Vineyard). If you don’t have the opportunity to get offshore contact Jakamo Sportfishing Charters for this unique fishing experience. If you are already a part of this fishery send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to our fishing report email list for South of the Vineyard out to the Canyons.
